Ta Sue Kho Fm

Period:
Jurassic

Age Interval:
late Toarcian (5)

Province:
Sibumasu: Western Region

Type Locality and Naming

Umphang basin, Tak Province. The type section of the Ta Sue Kho Formation is along the same track as that of the Klo Tho Fm and c. 30 m closer to the Myanmar border. Lower-middle formation in the Umphang Gr.

Synonym: หมวดหินตะซูโค๊ะ

Lithology and Thickness

The main lithology is thick-bedded medium- to coarse-grained arkosic sandstone. 100 m in its type section.

Lithology Pattern:
Coarse-grained sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable onto the Klo Tho Fm

Upper contact

Its top is unseen but probably is conformable beneath the Phu Khloe Khi Fm. That this contact may even be gradational is suggested by the presence of sandy limestone at the base of the Pu Khloe Khi Formation. The unexposed portions are also assumed to be sandstone.

Regional extent

Umphang basin, Tak Province. It is also exposed along the road from Ban Klo Tho to Amphoe Umphang and in the vicinity of Ban De Lo Khi and Ban Pa La Tha, with an unknown but probably comparable thickness.

Fossils

Plant remains. Other fossils are rare throughout the formation.

Age

A Late Toarcian to basal Aalenian age is indicated on the basis of its stratigraphic relations. Fig. 7.3 in Meesook & Saerngsrichan (2011) indicates a span of late Toarcian.
